Manwah Scribing Tempate - Review

Hey plamo nerds! Apologies for the lack of updates, I've been busy filling orders, and of course there's the GMKC that kicked off last Saturday and concludes this coming Sunday, June 25th. While we anxiously wait for the results, let's take a look at another tool that is essential to custom builders who enjoy more detail on their kits - the Manwah Scribing Template!

This is another cool item I came across while I was lost in the online Chinese domestic market. Manwah produces a wide range of plamo related tools, and quality is about the same as you'd expect from U-Star, and is also based out of China/Taiwan. These scribing templates caught my attention because they're relatively hard to come by in the local hobby scene.

They're flexible enough to be used on curved surfaces, and thick enough that they won't buckle as you drag your scriber of choice against the edges. The designs are also perfect for mecha, offering different shapes and patterns to add hatches, vents and other design elements to an otherwise boring surface.

If you're not familiar with how these are used, I've done a tutorial way back which you can check out here: Scribing With A Template

I was using a Hasegawa template in the tutorial, and the Manwah templates are larger and more sturdy than the Hasegawa ones. In testing I found that my scriber was less prone to slips thanks to the thicker edges on the template.

These Manwah templates are actually multi-tools, as they have a serrated edge on one side that makes a passable saw, especially for larger cutting jobs that a smaller etch saw can't handle.

For the modest price, quality and variety of patterns, this is a really good set of templates to add to your toolbox! I'm taking pre-orders on these for Philippine based modelers, so leave me a message on the facebook page if you'd like to order a set! --> facebook.com/budgetotaku

Until next time, keep building plamo!
