Galaxy Sanding Tools - Review / Demo

Hey plamo nerds! I'm working my way through all the tools I've recently added to the shop, and this week we're taking a look at the new Galaxy Tools sanding bars and micro files. They're stainless steel tools that come in a wide variety of widths and lengths, and are designed to be used with your favorite sandpaper. There's also a video version of the review towards the end for those who prefer my sexy YouTube voice. Jump in!

Making sanding sticks out of sandpaper white-glued to popsicle sticks is one of the oldest and most commonly used hobby hacks. But as you mature in the hobby and begin to strive for perfection, you start noticing how some of your budget tools may be hampering your progress. Popsicle sanding sticks are not very stiff and flat to begin with, and can end up dulling edges and rounding out corners on your kit. Enter Galaxy Tools sanding bars and micro files!

These metal bars are designed to be the flattest and stiffest sanding sticks you can get your hands on. They come in a wide variety of widths - from 15 mm for sanding larger pieces, all the way down to 2mm for getting into tight spaces. Each bar comes with a pack of thin double-sided tape, for affixing your favorite sandpaper.

To use, simply take a strip of tape and stick it onto the back of the bar. Next, peel off the backing paper to reveal the adhesive side, and lay it down onto your sandpaper. With the bar securely fixed to the paper, trace around it with a sharp hobby knife to cut it free from the sheet. What you'll end up with is a perfect sanding stick that will never bend or buckle during use.

The micro files are set up the same way. Just trim the included tape down to length, attach it to the tool, press it down onto sandpaper, and cut around the working tip. It's a simple but effective solution to mold lines that always show up in cramped spaces regular hobby files can't reach.

Here's a video of the same review and demo:

Godhand tools recently released a similar set of sanding bars, but these are much more affordable than their Japanese counterparts, even though they're basically the same thing. If you're in the Philippines and are interested in these sanding tools, head on over to the shop to place an order!

That's all for now, until next time, keep building plamo!
